In the previous 2 episodes we tried to understand more about Child Sexual Abuse and how to prevent it. In this episode, we get into practical steps of what you, as a mother, should do to detect if it has happened for your child. Then there are practical steps on what next - how you should or should not respond, the importance of taking professional help and how it helps the child and everyone around the child to deal with the situation. And most importantly, the repercussions of not detecting and taking adequate steps.

What's in this episode:
This is the final episode in the 3 part series on Child Sexual Abuse. In this episode, Kalpana take us thru 4 steps that we as moms should take up, to detect if abuse has happened for our child, regardless of the age of the child. These are easy and very relatable steps with examples.
She moves on to how the initial conversation with the child should be and why it is important to detect. She guides us on how to practice with our children on consent in a very down to earth way - be it with toddlers or the adolescents.
We talk about the stigma about going to therapy and why it is important to take professional help. She explains the ways in which the professional can help not just the child but the parents and the immediate family and even the "abuser". She shares how we can find professional help, regardless of whether we are in a city or a small town. She shares how it is definitely possible for the child to come out of the trauma and how the inner circle has to participate in the healing.

What's in this episode:
Kalpana talks about how our notion of CSA done by a stranger in some dark alley is false. She shares how home and school are the most at risk places for CSA and what we as parents need to know to protect our children. Not from strangers, but from known people, people whom we trust. She talks about how we have a false sense of safety and shares the most powerful tool that we can give our child.
We move on to discussing about how to talk to the child in an age appropriate manner, right from about 3 years to mid teens and beyond. We examine why the notion of good touch and bad touch is not correct.
More importantly, she explains with examples the importance of practicing conversations on sexuality among many other things and gives practical examples of doing so, embedded in our daily life.
Yes, she addresses the question of how to discuss with older children and what parental responsibility is in these days of everything being available at one's fingertips.
And she highlights the need to discuss gender, identity and so on and how this helps in the context of abuse.

We try to understand abuse and then what all comes under CSA. Yes, even bullying can come under this! How CSA can happen even without any physical contact and why it is impractical on our part to expect our children to talk about this in the current context.
We discuss to what extent CSA impacts children and what all influences this, why children who are abused once become more vulnerable and finally, what does it mean for us as parents.. What is it that we should know, how do we accept this can happen in our homes and how to react to the child?
